Our history

Since its very beginning in 1963, the company has been motivated by its ambitions.
Those ambitions have in no sense become smaller, and as recently as 2018 we
acquired the Swedish company Interstil Interiør, and so strengthened the
company’s positive development and position.
 

1963

It all started in 1963 when merchant Andreas Schou founded Schou isenkram.
Over the next several years, the company flourishes, and in 1991 the family
business is passed to his son Jørgen Schou.

1989

In a small warehouse in Børkop, tool wholesaler Hans Roed Pedersen establishes
H.P. værktøj. He combined the Scandinavians’ love of “DIY” with tools in a price
range that allowed people to feel that they had got a good bargain.

2007

Both company owners decide to sell, and the companies are purchased by
Dansk Generationsskifte Kapital, which establishes HP Schou.

2008

After a short time the company expands again with the purchase of Norway’s Osjord A/S.
This turned out to be a good investment, as turnover hits DKK 1 billion. HP Schou
suffers growing pains, and is acquired by Asko Aktieselskab.

2011

The time comes to merge in earnest. A large office is constructed in Kolding, with
all the administrative functions moved under one roof. In addition, a 2000 m2
showroom is built inside the new office, which makes it possible to see and get
a sense for the products.

2016

A new 3000 m2 showroom is opened in China this year. We already have offices in
China, from where we export an almost infinite number of non-stock items for those
customers who need a special product.

2017

HP Schou faces a change of ownership. The new owners are the Danish company
Schou Holding A/S. The company is back in the hands of the original owner
Jørgen Schou, who is now the main shareholder, with Lars Larsen as a minority
shareholder.

2018

In connection with the change of ownership to Schou Holding A/S, HP Schou also
changes its name to Schou.
Good business acumen is the key term for both the shareholders and thus for
Schou as a company. In order to strengthen its positive development, Schou
acquires Swedish company Interstil Interior and its large interior design range.
